Timecrimes

Director: Nacho Vigalondo
Run Time: 92 mins
Spain

Concept:

After accidentally traveling to the past, Héctor (Karra Elejalde) meets himself and triggers a series of mysterious events that lead to a shocking crime. The gripping time-travel story -- at once deeply intricate and easy to follow -- also stars Candela Fernández.

Pros:
  • If you like time travel movies, this one is soul shattering
  • Its fun to try and figure out, what the main character should do next
  • Forces the viewer to pay attention
Cons:
  • I am starting to hate movies, where the main character knows nothing about scfi
  • Takes a bit of time, to get to the main plot of the movie
  • The main character wasn't that likeable

Don't Watch this Trailer, If you want to be Surprised at all

My Thoughts:

I wish I liked this movie. It has all the toppings that I love. Interesting plot, time travel and suspense but the film fails to capture my interest, cause I hate the main character. The character starts off as a lecher and he doesn't get much better. At the beginning, of the film all he problems starts cause he was trying to look at naked girl. If he wasn't a perv, he would have been fine and everyone around him would have been fine.

Bulletproof Salesman

Directors: Petra Epperlein & Michael Tucker
Run Time: 70 mins
(Actually not a foreign film but a lot of it is filmed in Iraq)

Concept:

As an armored luxury car salesman, Fidelis Cloer has made a fortune from America's war in Iraq. This documentary examines how this successful German war profiteer earns money when violence increases and soldiers' lives are threatened. A dedicated capitalist who roots for the escalation of the war, Cloer predicted correctly that the situation in Iraq would deteriorate and provide opportunities for him to get rich.

Pros:

  • An interesting look into a world that I know nothing about
  • I learned a lot of things about armored cars
Cons:

  • You will want to own a armored car after seeing this film

My Thoughts:

I thought is movie was cool. I was amazed at how calm, cool and collect the car sales man was and I was interested in how some facts about car salesmenship stayed the same, no matter what country the car was being sold in. I was also moved at how much the car salesman believed in his product.

Welcome

Director: Anees Bazmee
Run Time: 164 mins
India

Concept:

When Rajiv's respectable uncle gives his blessing to his nephew's love for Sanjana, he doesn't know the girl comes from a Mafia family. When he tries to retract his approval, Sanjana's brothers set out on a comical mission to convince him otherwise.

Pros:
  • A silly goofy film, that is a lot of fun
  • You will either laugh at the jokes or laugh at what India people think of the mafia
  • The songs are catchy and the dances are interesting to watch
  • The backdrops for the dances will have you laughing your ass off (For example, a giant motorcycle in the club dance scene)
  • Cute little love story
Cons:
  • Way too long, when you think the movie is over, it is just starting
  • Copy scenes from other famous Hollywood movies
  • Plot doesn't make any sense at all

Video
(I couldn't find a trailer that was in english, so I found a video of one of the dance scenes)
Check It Out!

My Thoughts:

Excuse me, I am still giggle over the white mafia dude english in the above video. Welcome, is a silly movie but I loved it. It has ton of faults but the movie makes up for them with its charm. The plot is lame and the main actor can't really act but the side characters really make this movie shine. The two mafia brothers made me laugh so much with their silliness.
If you are feeling sick, this is the movie to watch cause you don't need any brain power to watch this movie and something in it will make you smile.

OldBoy

Director: Chan-wook Park
Run Time: 120 min
South Korea

Concept:

With no clue how he came to be imprisoned, drugged and tortured for 15 years -- and no one to hold accountable for his suffering -- a desperate businessman seeks revenge on his captors, relying on assistance from a friendly waitress.

Pros:
  • The most intense film, that I have seen ever
  • If someone has ever wronged you, you wouldn't be able to think of a better revenge
  • Your mind will be broken after seeing this film
  • Camera work is ingenious and you will wonder why, no one else has done it yet

Check Out the Trailer

My Thoughts:

After seeing this movie my mind was broken. It was shattered in a million pieces and it was wonderful. The depth of emotions, that I felt while watching this film was amazing. In one scene, I could actually feel the bile rising up from the back of my throat. The film has a lot of gore visuals but it wasn't the gore effects that had me sick, it was the thoughts, that got to me. After seeing OldBoy, other revenge flicks paled in comparison.
